Scott Mason's nomination was submitted by the Pine Street Inn. Last year for his Eagle Scout project, he set a goal of collecting 750 pounds of food for the Pine Street Inn. Scott decided to engage his entire town in the food drive. He wrote letters to more than 80 businesses in Halifax, enlisted the aid of the Boy Scout Council, and placed empty bags on the doors of EVERY home in town. He collected a total of 3,285 pounds of food! And, he did this while battling clostridium difficile, a debilitating illness that kept him out of school for an extended period of time.
We are proud to honor Scott Mason as the 2007 Dan and Betsy Nally Award Winner.
About the Nally Award
The Greater Boston Food Bank established the Nally Award in honor of Dan and Betsy to recognize other outstanding young volunteers in eastern Massachusetts. The Nally Award celebrates young people who are taking action against hunger. In 2005 the award went to Healthy Bones, a group of Framingham, Mass., schoolchildren who collect food every month from their neighbors and donate it to their local food pantry. Dan and Betsy Nally presented the group with the award at The Food Bank’s annual Partner Appreciation Luncheon in October 2005.
