Turkeys 4 America West Coast - Noah Lightman

My name is Noah Lightman and I am now the West Coast representative of Turkeys 4 America. I became familiar with “Turkeys” through a friend of mine, Aaron Soskin. Like the founders of the organization in Boston, a brother and sister team, Aaron and his sister worked together in their efforts for the West Coast branch of Turkeys 4 America. Since the new branch started in 2004, Aaron and Kayla made an impact on the Sacramento community. As Aaron goes on to college and leaves Sacramento, I have been picked up the baton to continue building the contribution of Turkeys. With determination and local support, the sky is truly the limit.

Though I have I had the good fortune of avoiding true hunger, I appreciate the impact of help from our community. Right before Thanksgiving of 2006, my father underwent a major surgery and had to stay in the hospital for three weeks. While my mom would visit him or sleep overnight at the hospital, friends and the community were generous enough to bring my brother and me a meal each night and make sure we were taken care of, so my mom wouldn’t have to worry. To the extent that I have experience, it is comforting to be provided a meal and support by friends during a time of need.

For future years, I hope to gain stronger support from schools, businesses, and friends in the community. As for 2010, my goal is to raise over $10,000 for Sacramento families in need. During these tough economic times, this is when people need our support the most. In the past, our efforts for the Sacramento Food Bank have helped so many families in need. EACH TURKEY COUNTS. My first time helping Aaron was in 2009. While helping Aaron, I was able to understand the process and passion of this organization.
